The mountain park near the DPRK's border was closed because of a minor landslide, according to a note posted by the information office of the Northeast China's Jilin Province.
"The temporary closure of the south scenic spot of the Changbai Mountain has drawn the attention of visitors and netizens, so we would like to clarify … it was temporarily closed because a minor landslide Wednesday afternoon," according to the Sina Weibo account of the Jilin government information office on Thursday.
The north and west scenic spots continue to be open to the public, the post said.
The note was originally posted by the Weibo account of the Changbai Mountain scenic site at 1 a.m. Thursday.
The Weibo post was then deleted, but several photos were later posted of employees cleaning the mountainside.
