Pronounced fǎn cháo zú, this literally means "trend benders," which refers to people who try to bring back old trends, like '80s hairstyles, for example. The way they see fashion is different from the mainstream, as they often choose opposite approaches.

Trend benders hold true to themselves and disregard what other people think of them. They ride bikes to work when they can afford cars, write snail-mail whenever possible in preference to e-mail and prefer reading "real" books instead of e-books. To them, such a lifestyle is a reflection of inner peace and happiness.

Let's put it into context:

Phil: Hey Allen! What are you up to?

Allen: I am writing Thanksgiving cards to my family and friends.

Phil: Oh, much to my surprise, you are not using e-cards and sending them via email. I didn't know that you were a fǎn cháo zú!

Allen: Yes, I prefer paper. I think they deliver a warmer message, and make me feel closer to the genuine emotions embedded between the lines.

Phil: I see. No wonder you have not started using a Kindle!
