Ecns - The Ninth China (Beijing) International Garden Expo began its trial run on Sunday, when nearly 10,000 volunteers and citizens took part in a 10-kilometer walk at the garden.
The trial will last till May 13, during which the garden is estimated to receive 20,000 visitors daily.
The size of the expo is equivalent to two Summer Palaces, according to a person in charge. To provide convenience for tourists, the garden is equipped with 99 environment-friendly battery-powered carts, which are expected to handle 25,440 passenger rides every day. Meanwhile, 27 food service areas have been set up, which can serve 5,000 visitors simultaneously.
The garden is also equipped with 681 fixed toilet seats, 150 temporary ones and 17 barrier-free ones, he added. On Sunday, the western section of the Beijing Subway's new Line 14 also started trial operation in time to serve the expo, and 7 bus lines will also provide direct access to the garden.
The expo has over 10,000 parking spaces and a 1,000-square-meter news center. The trial run mainly tests the expo's hardware construction, the operation of facilities, and equipment and visitor reception services, he said.
The Ninth China (Beijing) International Garden Expo will open on May 18, 2013.
