Xichang (CNS) -- The Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province will have the capability to launch more than 15 satellites every year, the center said on Thursday.
Party Secretary Sun Baowei said that the center is focusing more on infrastructure improvement to keep up with the development of the country's space industry.
The establishment of a test center has already been started and will be completed next year, Sun said. The No. 3 tower will also be upgraded in 2014 to launch more types of rockets.
The center plans to launch more than 50 satellites and space vehicles, including Beidou and Chang'e, in the next eight to ten years, he added.
The center launched the communications satellite "Zhongxing-11" at about midnight Thursday (Beijing time).
