(CNS) --China's gross domestic product (GDP) registered a 7.7 percent year-on-year growth in the first quarter of 2013, according to data released at a press briefing on Monday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

According to preliminary statistics, China's GDP totaled 11.9 trillion yuan ($1.9 trillion) in the first quarter, registering a 7.7 percent year-on-year growth, said NBS spokesman Sheng Laiyun.

Primary industry achieved a year-on-year growth of 3.4 percent, secondary industry 7.8 percent, and tertiary industry 8.3 percent.

Since the beginning of this year, the central government has taken measures to spur steady progress in economic work, Sheng said.
