(CNS) -- An Australian task force has seized up to HK$1.6 billion dollars worth of methamphetamine as it was being smuggled in from Hong Kong, and arrested a woman suspected of being the "key organiser" of a drug trafficking gang, the Sing Tao Daily has reported.
Police say the methamphetamine was found in a container, where it was suspended in 96 bottles of carpet cleaner. Australian customs officers conducted detailed checks of the smuggled liquids and found that there were a total of 365 kg of "ice" in them.
They have arrested a 45-year-old Hong Kong woman from Kew, a suburb of Melbourne, on suspicion of trafficking methamphetamine. The case also involves a 31-year-old Canadian man, who has been taken to the Melbourne Magistrates Court.
A surge in the use of "ice" plus huge profits have driven the trafficking market, police said.
