(CNS) -- The mainland has taken the right direction in controlling H7N9 bird flu, and activity caused by the virus will decline in two weeks, a Hong Kong newspaper on Thursday quoted a local virologist as saying.
Guan Yi, a famous virologist and professor at Hong Kong University, said Wednesday that Shanghai and Nanjing have implemented suitable measures, including closing live poultry trading markets and slaughtering all birds, according to the Ming Pao Daily News.
Guan said chicken accounts for about 75 percent of all poultry in the mainland, and that 21 out of 33 H7N9-positive poultry samples have come from chicken. There is an 80 percent possibility that chicken first spread the virus, he concluded.
By Thursday, the mainland had reported 38 cases of H7N9.
