Guangzhou (CNS) ?C Thirty-one percent of Guangdong residents have expressed discontent in a survey about local environmental conditions, up 7 percentage points from a year ago, according to the Canton Public Opinion Research Center on Monday.
The survey, conducted among the southern province's urban and rural residents in March, shows that 68 percent of the respondents expressed satisfaction with the environment, down 6 percentage points from 2011.
Dissatisfaction with water quality is at 37 percent, up 8 percentage points from last year, while dissatisfaction over air quality has hit 37 percent, up 11 percentage points compared to last year, the survey says.
Environmental protection work by the local government has come in at 30 percent, up 4 percentage points from 2011.
The Canton Public Opinion Research Center, a non-profit legal entity, is the earliest public opinion research organization on the Chinese mainland.
