Beijing (CNS) -- The National Grand Theater's opera festival will begin with Giancarlo del Monaco's version of Verdi's "Othello" from April 11 to 14.

It will be the fourth opera for the Italian director to stage at the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA).

The director, whose father Chinese wanton ingenues.has performed "Othello" 427 times, said he wanted to create a complicated new version, with scenery from the Venice and Cyprus of the period.

Wei Song, the Chinese tenor who played Othello in Shanghai in 2004, will reprise his role in this production.
