Beijing (CNS) -- The People's Liberation Army (PLA) will conduct nearly 40 joint military exercises and trainings this year, according to the PLA General Staff Headquarters on Tuesday.

The exercises are intended to enhance combat preparedness and improve combat abilities and co-operation to meet future wartime needs in the information age, the Military Training Department said.

The exercises and trainings will cover air-land joint combat, live-ammunition confrontations on the open sea and coordinated aerial defense.

The department vowed to put the country's core security-related interests in a more prominent position and adopt real combat criteria in military training in order to fulfill missions and tasks.
