Tianjin (CNS) -- The city of Tianjin will further develop its urban track transportation system in 2013, the Tianjin Infrastructure Investment Group said Monday.

This year the city will build five new metro lines totaling 115.3 kilometers, said Ma Baiyu, president of the group.

Tianjin will also build two to three more metro lines in the next five years, with the total distance to top 246 kilometers, said Ma.

According to the plan, Tianjin will have nine metro lines and one light railway. Line 1, line 2, line 3 and the light railway are already in operation.

The city's first metro line was constructed in 1970 and opened eight years later.
