Beijing (CNS) -- The government will monitor air pollution in 47 cities and impose special emission limits on airborne pollutants, the Ministry of Environmental Protection said on Wednesday.
Environmental Minister Zhou Shengxian said during a meeting that the thermal power, iron and steel, petrochemical, cement, non-ferrous metal and chemical industries will gradually have to comply with international emission limits on airborne pollutants.
Researchers at Fudan University and the China Academy of Science say that curbing auto emissions and using cleaner oil products should also be a priority.
Nearly 80 percent of recent government legislative meetings discussed environmental protection, according to an estimation by The Legal Mirror, a Beijing-based newspaper.
