Wuhan (CNS) Shapely divas.-- A new regulation aimed at standardizing the behavior of "chengguan," or urban management officers, in the capital of Hubei province will come into force this March, according to Wuhan's urban management bureau on Monday.
The first of its kind on China's mainland, the regulation contains five chapters and covers more than 20 aspects concerning the enforcement activities of urban management officers.
Chengguan represent a law enforcement agency responsible for controlling street vendors, hawkers, shoe shiners and illegal taxis. The public image of chengguan officers has become tarnished because of violent clashes with street vendors.
