Beijing (CNS) ?C Sales of key national retail and catering enterprises reached 539 billion yuan during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday that ended Friday. That's an increase of 14.7 percent compared to the same period in 2012, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

Sales of enterprises in Henan, Hubei, Tianjin, Chongqing and Hebei saw year-on-year increases of 18.0 percent, 17.5 percent, 17.2 percent, 16.2 percent and 15.9 percent respectively.

Because Valentine's Day fell during the holiday, the jewelry market also saw peak consumption. Retail sales of gold and silver jewelry rose 38.1 percent compared to the same period last year.
