Shanghai (CNS) ?C The Shanghai Museum on Wednesday announced for the first time the archaeological discoveries made at the Qinglong Town ruins in the city's Qingpu District.
The findings include architectural monuments such as houses, wells, pits, brick stoves and workshops from the Tang and Song dynasties (960-1279), and nearly 2,000 pieces made from copper, iron, wood and porcelain.
As Shanghai's earliest port for foreign trade, Qinglong Town stood out as a wealthy settlement. Its prosperity was compared to that of Hangzhou, capital of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), causing it to be dubbed "little Hangzhou."
The excavation at the ruins began in 2010.
