Guangzhou (CNS) -- On Sunday, passenger numbers reached one million for the third consecutive day, the Guangzhou Railway Group has said.

Guangzhou Railway Station, a major travel hub in China, handled 176,000 passengers Sunday, slightly more than the same period last year.

Air conditioners were in operation as temperatures in the city rose to 27 degrees Celsius on Saturday, the highest on record for the same period since 1951.

The Guangzhou Railway Group said it has transported more than 8 million passengers in the past nine days since the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush began on January 26.
