Beijing (CNS) ?C China's number of traffic violations declined significantly in January following the implementation of new regulations, according to the Traffic Management Bureau on Thursday.

A total of 1.37 million traffic light violations were reported across the country in the past month, a decrease of 40 percent compared to the same period last year, the bureau said. The number of accidents and deaths resulting from traffic light violations also decreased by 12.2 percent and 25.6 percent respectively.

Running red lights and speeding were largely to blame for accidents.

In addition, 14,000 cases of improper use of license plates were reported during the month, a 71.5 percent drop compared to the same period last year, according to the bureau.
