Yongzhou (CNS) -- A court in central China's Hunan Province has accepted a case against a local labor camp filed by the mother of a young rape victim.
The woman, named Tang Hui, received notification from the Intermediate People's Court of Yongzhou yesterday.
Tang was sent to the labor camp last August after campaigning for harsher punishments for the people who had abducted, raped and forced her 11-year-old daughter into prostitution. The national firestorm over her treatment forced local authorities to release her.
Earlier this month, Yongzhou authorities rejected Tang's demand for compensation for the time she spent in the camp.
Tang had demanded 1,463.85 yuan (US$235) for infringing upon her personal freedom, another 1,000 yuan for psychological damages, and a written apology.
