Beijing (CNS) -- Seventeen Chinese provinces and municipalities on Thursday disclosed the per capita disposable incomes of their urban residents in 2012.

Shanghai ranked highest at 40,188 yuan (6,481 U.S. dollars), followed by Beijing and Jiangsu.

The top three, together with Tianjin and Shandong, surpassed the national income for urban residents, which was 24,565 yuan.

Urban per capita disposable incomes increased 9.6 percent after being adjusted for inflation in 2012, surpassing the country's year-on-year GDP growth of 7.8 percent, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics.
