Shijiazhuang (CNS) -- Hong Kong has become Hebei Province's largest source of foreign investment, reporters learned at a press conference Wednesday.

In 2012, Hebei utilized foreign investment of US$6.03 billion, an increase of 14.7 percent compared to the previous year. The paid-up investment from Hong Kong was $3.65 billion, an increase of 35.4%, accounting for more than 60 percent of Hebei's total amount of foreign direct investment, provincial economic authorities said.

Their data also show that Hebei's GDP in 2012 was 2.65 trillion yuan, an increase of 9.6 percent over the previous year.

The total value of Hebei's imports and exports in 2012 was $50.55 billion, a year-on-year decline of 5.7 percent. Among them, total export value was $29.6 billion, an increase of 3.6 percent, and total import value was $20.94 billion, a decrease of 16.3 percent.

Hebei's exports to the United States, ASEAN countries and Russia saw rapid growth last year, with an increase of 12 percent to 34.8 percent. Its exports to Hong Kong and Taiwan also achieved faster growth at more than 15 percent.
