BEIJING (CNS) ?C Emissions from motor vehicles have become the main source of air pollution in China, according to a report issued Thursday by the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP).

The volume of pollutants generated by motor vehicles in China amounted to 46.07 million tons in 2011, the report said.

The report also found that the number of cars owned by Chinese citizens last year jumped to 207 million, 30 times as many as in 1980.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection will redouble its efforts to conduct eco-friendly monitoring of the manufacture, usage, and disposal of cars, so as to further reduce emissions from motor vehicles, according to MEP spokesman Tao Detian.
