Lanzhou(CNS) -- A new book called "History of Dunhuang" explores the development path of the Dunhuang civilization over the past 2,000 years, according to an official in Jiuquan, Gansu Province, on Monday.

The book provides insight into the uniqueness of the culture and its important contributions to world civilization, the official said.

It also answers the question of how Dunhuang transformed from a nomadic grassland culture into a transportation hub on the Silk Road, eventually becoming the historic city of today, said Dou Xiafu, the book's author.
