Washington (CNS)-- China's new passport will have no effect on Chinese people trying to get into the United States, a State Department spokesperson said at a press conference Monday.
The map printed on the revised passport does not violate international standards, according to spokesperson Victoria Nuland.
America's stance on the South China Sea dispute remains unchanged, and it won't be shifted by a map printed on a passport, said Nuland, who added that the disputes should be resolved through negotiations between China and other ASEAN members.
The new passport, issued on May 15, contains a map of maritime areas that China claims are inalienable parts of its sovereignty. Vietnam and the Philippines have called for the passports to be changed.
