Washington (CNS) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission determined on Monday that revoking the existing antidumping duty order on honey from China "would be likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury within a reasonably foreseeable time."

The action comes under the five-year (sunset) review process which, in accordance with the WTO, requires review no later than five years after an antidumping or countervailing duty order is issued.

As a result of the determination, the existing antidumping tariffs on honey from China will be maintained.

The U.S. government has slapped tariffs varying from 25.88 percent to 183.8 percent on Chinese honey exports since December 2001. This is the second five-year review.

About 60 percent of the honey consumed in the U.S., the largest consumer in the world, is imported, according to reports. China, the main honey exporter to the U.S., was first investigated in an antidumping suit in 1994.
