Putian (CNS) -- The fourth Southern Shaolin Martial Arts Cultural Festival opened in Putian, Fujian Province, on Thursday.

Over 2,000 people including eminent monks from home and abroad have been attracted to the event.

The festival features a Buddhist blessing ceremony and a prayer for world peace, and has brought together different styles of martial arts.

The festival serves as a good platform to promote the culture and spirit of the Southern Shaolin temple, said Master Xuecheng, vice president of the Buddhist Association of China.

Being the cradle of the Southern Fist, the Southern Shaolin temple represents a valuable heritage of Zen culture, added Master Xuecheng.
