Guangzhou (CNS) -- We look forward to RMB settlement because it will help us avoid exchange rate risks, a foreign trade manager based in Guangdong Province said at the Autumn Canton Fair on Saturday.
His words echo the desire of many Chinese businessmen who do international business, but the reality is that RMB settlement is mostly ignored by American and European clients.
We once tried to persuade our overseas clients to pay bills via RMB, but they were bothered by the complicated, time-consuming procedures and eventually chose U.S. dollars instead, said the head of a clothing company based in Foshan.
There are not enough overseas money agencies to exchange RMB, said Fan Ye, who is in charge of a Guangzhou cosmetics company. International buyers have their own pricing systems, which are usually set in U.S. dollars, so they are unwilling to settle in another currency, she added.
RMB settlement is an immature and unfamiliar business, so we are maintaining a prudent attitude about it, said Su Jinshui, a buyer from the U.S. who has attended a dozen Canton Fairs.
