Beijing (CNS) -- China's State Forestry Administration (SFA) on Wednesday issued an emergency ban on the hunting of migratory birds and other wildlife.

Local forestry officials and police should strengthen law enforcement to protect wildlife and take precautions against poaching or habitat destruction, said the administration.

The SFA said police will patrol locations related to wildlife and wildlife products, such as bird and flower markets, restaurants, hotels, and wholesale markets.

A series of education campaigns will also be undertaken across the country to appeal to the public to care about wildlife, the authority said.
