Shenzhen (CNS) -- Construction of metro line 7 in the southern city of Shenzhen got underway on Tuesday. The line is designed to span 30.2 kilometers and scheduled to go into full operation by the end of 2016, with a total investment of 20 billion yuan (US$3.2 billion).
The project will be carried out by Shenzhen Metro Group Co., Ltd. and Sinohydro Group Ltd.
The line will have 28 stations connecting the areas of Xili, Longzhu, Futian South, Huaqiang North, Sungang, Tianbei and Buxin, covering the southern half of some of Shenzhen's main residential and business areas. The whole line will be underground.
At present, the length of Shenzhen's city rail is the longest in the country behind Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou. It is expected to have 10 metro lines with a total length of 348 km by 2016.
