Changchun (CNS) -- Weather-proof CRH380B bullet trains stood up to their first snowstorms in Liaoning and Jilin Provinces on Monday.

No problems or failures occurred despite the extreme weather, according to a source at the CNR Changchun Railway Vehicles Company on Tuesday.

The train conducted a test run at 300 km/hour in the heavy snow, which reached a maximum depth of 11.7 centimeters in Jilin. Despite the chilling weather outside, the temperature inside the train remained at 22 degrees Celsius, the source said.

The newly-built Harbin-Dalian High-Speed Railway is the first alpine high-speed rail line in the world. The CNR380B, which was independently developed by China and custom-made for the line, can handle temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius.

The line will start operation within the year and reduce travel time between Harbin and Dalian to three and a half hours.
