Beijing (CNS) -- Speedskater Wang Meng, China's most decorated winter Olympian, won the women's 500-meter short-track speedskating event at the ISU World Cup in Calgary on Sunday.

It was the first gold medal for China's national team at the competition's season opener in Canada.

Wang crossed the finish line at the Calgary Oval in 43.240 in the final A, slightly off her world record time of 42.609. Her teammate Liu Qiuhong claimed the silver in 44.038, while Arianna Fontana from Italy came in third at 44.236.

It was Wang's first international competition after serving a 13-month ban for punching her team manager in a drunken brawl.

Wang, who is from Heilongjiang Province, is winner of four winter Olympic gold medals.
