Hong Kong (CNS) -- Hong Kong is now home to 7,250 companies registered by mainland and overseas investors, a year-on-year increase of 4.3 percent and a record high, according to a survey released Thursday by Invest Hong Kong and the local government.

The companies have recruited a total of 388,000 employees, 20,000 more than last year, up 5.7 percent, according to the survey. 1,367 of the companies have set up regional headquarters in the city, 2,516 have built branches to handle regional business, and 3,367 have local offices.

We are glad to see the rise in the number of overseas and mainland companies that have registered here, because it proves that Hong Kong remains an optimal commercial destination across Asia, said Simon Galpin, director-general of investment promotion at Invest Hong Kong.
