Tokyo (CNS) -?C The priority for China's central bank is controlling inflation, Yi Gang, deputy governor of the People's Bank of China (PBOC), said on Sunday in Tokyo.

Yi delivered a nearly one-hour speech on China's monetary policy and financial reform on the last day of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank annual meetings.

Inflation control, maintaining growth, job creation and trade balance are China's four aims, Yi said, adding that only after all the aims are achieved can the country move toward sustainable development.

Three methods of controlling inflation are opening market operations, exchange rate reform and interest rate reform, he said.

When asked about the internationalization of the renminbi, Yi said it should be motivated by a market mechanism, and that obstacles limiting the use of the renminbi should be removed to create an equally competitive environment.
