Nanchang (CNS) ?C China has surpassed other countries in railway distance, an official said on Thursday during an international meeting in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province.
China's high-speed railways have reached 6,894 kilometers and more than 10,000 kilometers are under construction, said Zhao Guotang, vice general manager and chief engineer of the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway Co., Ltd.
China has exceeded other countries in many areas including systems technology, integration capacity, length of high-speed rails and speed of trains, Zhao said.
A total of 1,579 high-speed trains transport 1.33 million passengers every day, accounting for 25.7 percent of total railway passengers, Zhao added
The first high-speed rail in China was the Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway, which was opened on August 1, 2008.
The biannual meeting on innovation and sustainable development of railway construction was organized by universities in China and Russia.
