Beijing (CNS) -- China's power transmission lines with 220 kilovolt and higher have been extended to 480,000 kilometers and its substation capacity has increased to 2.2 billion kilovolt-amperes, ranking its power grid scale first in the world, the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) announced Tuesday.

Starting from 2002, the reform of the electric power system has brought tremendous progress to the industry, the authority said.

Power transmission lines have been increased by 2.5 times and substation capacity has increased by 4.2 times, the SERC said.

Equipment and technology management of the power industry have been enhanced, and projects related to 1,000 kilovolt AC extra-high voltage and 800 kilovolt DC transmission lines have gone into operation, it said.

Thermal power generator and hydroelectricity networks have been upgraded, while wind and solar power projects have experienced rapid development, it added.
