Guiyang (CNS) -- A 14.69-km tunnel for a high-speed railway project connecting the cities of Guiyang and Guangzhou was completed Friday, according to a source at the construction site.

The tunnel called "Yanshan" runs through a mountain in Rongjiang County of Guizhou Province. It is one of 209 tunnels under construction for the Guiyang-Guangzhou High Speed Railway.

The whole project was started in October 2008 and is expected to be finished in 2014. By then, a single journey between Guiyang and Guangzhou will only take four hours. The current route is 22 hours long.
