BEIJING (CNS) ?C Chinese liquor producers, including Fenjiu, Ruyang Dukang and Wuliangye, have stepped up to oppose an application by Maotai for a "national wine" trademark.

In an open letter, Ruyang Dukang said most people can't afford the high price of Maotai, so it is improper to call it the "national wine."

The application passed a preliminary examination by the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce in July.

According to Chinese trademark law, Maotai will receive the trademark if there are no objections, or if the objections are invalid, in three months.
