Sydney (CNS) -- Since its establishment in 2007, the Australian Confucius Research Society has donated 17 statues of Confucius to a number of countries, including Australia, the UK, Austria, Italy, Thailand, Japan and China, according to the society's president Qian Qiguo.

Qian spoke Sunday at the society's fifth anniversary celebration in Sydney.

The society gave out statues as gifts to institutions and communities around the world with the aim of raising awareness of Chinese culture and promoting exchange and fostering harmonious relations, said Qian.

Duan Jielong, Consul General of China in Sydney, expressed his gratitude for the society's contribution in spreading Chinese culture.
