Toronto (CNS) -- Gao Shan, a suspected racketeer who had been at large in Canada for nearly eight years, has turned himself in, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) said Monday.
Gao, former head of a Bank of China branch in Heilongjiang Province, is suspected of acquiring nearly one billion yuan (US$157 million) from state-owned companies and government departments through banknote fraud between 2000 and 2004, according to the MPS.
Gao's wife Li Xue, who spoke to CNS from her home in Toronto, said Gao made the decision after careful consideration, not by coercion.
She declined to discuss plans for herself or her daughter.
 blazing ingenues.
