Beijing (CNS) -- The licenses of 142 electric utilities were cancelled or downgraded in the first half of this year, the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) said in a recent report on China's power market.

Nine power companies that carried out construction work without permits have been required to rectify their operations, the commission said.

The SERC said power enterprises were more aware of the need for permits, but illegal operations still exist.
