Beijing (CNS) -- Only 51.3 percent of China's floating population sign fixed-term labor contracts with employers, while more than 30 percent of them have no labor contract at all, the National Population and Family Planning Commission disclosed on Monday.
The commission released China Floating Population 2012 Development Report, which stated this classification of worker, mostly migrant workers from the countryside, need to raise their employment law awareness to protect their rights.
No more than 30 percent of the population was registered in social insurance programs in 2011, including pension and housing funds, and medical, industrial injury, unemployment, or maternity insurance plans.
The floating population works 54.6 hours per week on average, far exceeding the 40 hour maximum set out in the Labor Law.
