Beijing (CNS) -- Should a toll-free policy for highways on some red-letter days be expanded to all national holidays? That is the hotly debated issue around the provisions of Toll Free Regulation for Car and Minibus on Important Red-letter Days.
The toll free regulation announced by the State Council on August 2 stipulates free rides on the nation's highways for these vehicles will be in effect on important holidays such as Spring Festival, Tomb-sweeping Day, International Labor Day, National Day and other subsequently long weekends. However, traditional holidays such as the Mid-autumn Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival and New Year's Day do not fall in to the same category.
The public is obviously dissatisfied with the limited number of toll-free periods, and there have been calls for equal treatment of passenger coaches.
