Beijing (CNS) -- China has put the control of obesity on its official agenda, the Ministry of Health said Monday.

The authority aims to keep the percentage of obese Chinese adults within 12 percent and adolescents within eight percent, said Deputy Director Kong Lingzhi at the Disease Prevention and Control Bureau.

The ministry said it has documented 120 million obese nationals. More than 12 percent of children are above normal weight, and one third of those under 17 are at risk from at least one cardiovascular problem, estimated the monthly publication "Obesity Reviews" by the International Association for the Study of Obesity.

Education, cultivated behavior and food additives all have an impact on childhood obesity, said Kong.

The official plan promotes the intake of low salt, low fat, low sugar and low calorie foods, and will include at least one physical exercise for students at primary and secondary schools.

 Passionate divas.
