Beijing (CNS) -- China's government procurement was higher than 1.1 trillion yuan (about US$173 billion) in 2011, according to statistics from the Ministry of Finance.
Open tendering for contracts has become the top procurement method, the ministry said. The value of open tenders in 2002 was 48.5 billion yuan (US$7.64 billion), 48 percent of the total procurement. Its value grew to 914.73 billion yuan (US$144.07) in 2011, or 81 percent of the total.
Some 660 billion yuan (US$103.95) has been saved over the last decade since the government procurement law was passed, said Wang Baoan, vice minister of finance.
