Changsha (CNS) -- Severe floods in Hunan Province have affected 1.07 million residents, left two dead and two missing, and imposed direct economic losses that amount to 610 million yuan (US$95.96 million), according to the Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, Wednesday.
Two rounds of strong rainfall have pummeled the region since June 21, from the southeastern part towards the west and north.
The provincial authority launched the year's first wide-range emergent flood response plan on Sunday. Zhuzhou, Changde, Yiyang, Chenzhou, and Yongzhou are among the most seriously affected cities.
Some 18,940 people were swiftly transferred to avoid further casualties or loss of life.
