Zhengzhou (CNS) -- The Yellow River Henan Bureau announced on Wednesday that in order to relieve drought-hit regions across the province it had opened 40 gates in the dike containing the Yellow River.
By Wednesday, Henan had absorbed a total water volume of 2.29 billion cubic meters released from the Yellow River. On a daily basis it absorbs an amount triple that in the West Lake.
As of May, the average rainfall in the province fell dramatically, by more than half the average, triggering urgent demands for irritation of provincial rice, corn, and cotton fields.
