Beijing (CNS) -- A number of websites across the country that were advocating consumer rebates crashed this week.

One Hundred Percent Rebate is a case in point. The website headquartered in Fujian Province set up a monsterously large scam and succeeded in cheating consumers in 23 provinces and cities. The fraud has destroyed consumer belief in the rebate offers.

In fact, the collapsed companies are running a pyramid scheme disguised in a consumer rebate site, and consumers were led to some basic information on the real rebate websites from the fake ones, said Ge Yongchang, the founder and CEO of a consumer rebate website named Fanli.

The so-called rebate benefits are not genuine, said Ge, if they ask consumers to invite more participants into the scheme.
