Beijing (CNS) -- Chinese athlete and three-time world vault champion Cheng Fei will give a pass to the 2012 London Olympics because of an Achilles tendon injury, the national gymnastics team announced on Friday.

The 24-year-old girl was a mainstay of her team at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, and at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Cheng reached the summit of her career infant girl swimsuit bikini.when she captained the national women's gymnastics team that won a gold medal.

Natural aging and injury problems resulted in Cheng's gradual drift away from competition, but she returned to the arena with the idea of making her mark in the Olympic Games once more. Last month she won the vault title at the World Cup in China.

On June 14 however, Chen was accidently injured during daily training and later had an operation to repair a ruptured Achilles. The operation itself went smoothly, said coach Lu Shanzhen, but her Olympic ambitions have been shelved.
