Lhasa (CNS) -- China will set up new international air routes connecting Tibet and West Asia, South Asia and other regions, according to an official source on June 7.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and the government of Tibet Autonomous Region held a meeting in Lhasa and determined to increase the region's aviation capacity to four million passengers by 2015.
CAAC and the local government will support domestic airlines to add routes connecting Tibet and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, in addition to international air routes.
Direct air routes between Tibet and India and Nepal are the priority for 2013 and 2014 expansion efforts, said local official Li Hancheng. At present, there is only one international air route between Lhasa and Kathmandu, Nepal.
