Guangzhou (CNS) -- Australian Karl Fjellstrom, an expert in bus rapid transit systems (BRT), has become the first foreigner to be awarded the honor of being named one of Guangzhou's ten most outstanding young residents.
The leader of the BRT international expert team has been getting to know the city's urban transportation system and gathering public opinion on its services. It all started when he was dispatched to do a volunteer stint as part of a BRT cooperative program after concluding his term at the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy in the U.S.
Fjellstrom created the first version of the Canton Map for Pedestrians and is offering the copyright to any press or publishing house interested in promoting it. The four-booklet series has a selection of 28 fine urban walkabouts described in both Chinese and English, all with precise satellite images. He is convinced that Guangzhou will attract more young foreign talents, he told CNS at the award ceremony on Monday evening.
He not only fell in love with Guangzhou while taking part in the program, he met his wife here in this city where he considers everything fascinating, from road networks to architecture to local community life. Fjellstrom admits he feels more at home in Guangzhou now than where his roots actually are - in Brisbane, northeastern Australia.
 Dreamy babes.
