Shanghai (CNS) -- The 2012 Fudan University (FDU) International Summer Session got underway Monday, featuring courses on the history, society, politics, economy and culture of China, as well as teachings on Chinese painting, calligraphy, paper cutting and Taichi.
The programs have attracted more than 100 international students from over 60 universities in 13 countries, including Stanford, Cambridge, Duke, John Hopkins, Georgetown, New York, and Toronto University, as well as the University of British Columbia, and the National University of Singapore.
Thirteen research courses in English and some other Chinese language lessons at four levels have been carefully designed, with mandatory sections requiring interactions among students via popular networking platforms in China, such as Weibo.
Few of the participants are of Chinese origin, revealed Deputy Director Liu Li, FDU Foreign Affairs Office.
The summer program, a routine effort for most internationally renowned universities, is in this case also a demonstration of the country's soft power, commented Assistant Professor Liu Yongtao of the School of International Relations and Public Affairs at FDU.
